The inspiration for this portfolio is the novel "The Overstory" by Richard Powers.  I will never look at trees or forests in the same way after reading it and I began thinking about how I could interpret the premise of the book visually.

The gist of the book is that trees communicate with each other by releasing gasses and transferring nutrients through a network of fungi that connects roots.  Trees, in other words. are social, have memory and talk to each other.  And they do it over the air and under the ground.  The book is also about how people and trees relate to one another and the destruction humans, intentionally or not,  cause to the worlds ecosystem in service to consumerism and profit.    

Using in and out of camera multiple exposures and layering as well as camera movement, I am attempting to visualise what "underground and over the air" might look like.
